How to Measure for Your Rope Belt

How to Measure for Your Rope Belt

We get it! You might be eyeing a belt, but sizing can be tricky. Sizing can vary from brand to brand and this can make everyone reluctant to buy. If it’s not easy, it’s not something most people want to do. So, we’re breaking down exactly how to measure for your Lizard Tail Belt. We’re also answering questions about sizing, measuring, and custom belts as well. So, there’s no need to be intimidated by the measuring process.

Process of measuring

The good news is that it’s not complicated to measure yourself for a Lizard Tail Belt. We base our belt measurements on your pant size. So, if you know your pant size, simply refer to our size chart. It will tell you what pant size corresponds to your different belt sizes. We have belts from small-3XL. We also include sizing for both women and men on our size chart.

In between sizes? Make sure you size up. It’s better to have a belt with more slack than something that is way too tight.

What if I’m unsure of my pant size?

If you’re not quite sure about your pant size, you can refer to the section below to measure for it. You can also go to the size chart on our website, and click “find your size.” A window will pop up that allows you to type in your waist size (you can find this by using a measuring tape to measure around your waist.) Once you hit enter, we’ll give you a recommendation of the best belt size for you.

Finding your pant size

If you’re not sure what your pant size is, let us help. Here are instructions on how to measure for your pant size whether you’re a man or woman.

Men

Men’s pant sizes are simply based on measurements. It’s usually listed as the waist size x the length (for example 37x33.) If you have a pair of jeans you love, you can usually just look at the tag within them for your sizing. Sizes vary by brand, so, keep that in mind.

If you want to re-measure, or you don’t have a super comfy pair of pants, here’s what you can do. Have a trusted friend help you measure with a flexible measuring tape. Measure your natural waist in inches (the smallest part of your waist), and use that number as the first number of your measurements. Then measure from the very top part of your thigh to the top of your ankle in inches. This should give you your pant size. You can use this pant size with our size chart to determine the best fitting belt for you.

Women

If you’re a woman, your pant size is a bit different. Usually, most women just know their pant sizes from trying pants on. So, hopefully, you already know your general size. If not, since women’s sizing isn’t spelled out in inches like the men’s pants are, it’s more complicated. It’s based on a scale that goes from 0-26+. Pant sizes vary from brand to brand, but generally, you can look at most women’s size charts (pick your favorite place to get jeans and use their size chart.)

To start, it might be a good idea to have a trusted friend help you with your measurements. Wear tight clothing, or measure yourself while not wearing anything for the most accurate measurement. First, start by getting the measurement of your natural waistline. This is usually the area that is the narrowest part of your torso and is generally above your belly button. Then measure your inseam. You can do this by measuring from your crotch to where you want the jeans to end (generally around your ankle.) You can also take the inseam measurement from a pair of jeans you already have if that’s easier. Once you have your measurements, compare them to the size chart from your favorite place to get jeans to determine your pant size. Then you can take this size to our size chart to determine your belt size.

Size chart

Once you know your pant size, you can look at our size chart with confidence. Our belts come in small, medium, large, XL, 2XL, and 3XL. Once you get your belt, if you measure it, you might notice it’s longer than you expected. We add 6-8 inches of rope in addition to your size for comfort and ease of adjusting.

To break the sizing down more simply:

  1. Make sure you know your pant size.
  2. Refer to our sizing chart.
  3. If you don’t know your pant size, you can input your waist size under “find your size” for a recommendation.
  4. Find your favorite colored belt, and buy it!

What if I need a larger custom size?

No problem! We can make that happen. When you select the color of the belt you want to buy, use the drop-down menu to select “custom.” Then enter your pant size. We will take your pant size and as mentioned above, we add a few extra inches to the belt for ease of adjustment. You don’t need to worry about adding that additional length to your size. Just give us your pant size and we’ll take care of the rest.

What about belts for kids?

We have them! Our kids’ size chart includes pant sizes as well as waist measurements. So, you can use either to determine which kid-sized belt to get for your adventure sidekick.
